IR Legal Welcomes Edward Tai as Consulting Principal

IR Legal is pleased to announce the appointment of Edward Tai as Consulting Principal, bringing extensive international experience and deep cross-border capability to the firm’s Legal Team.

Born and educated in Hong Kong, Edward is admitted as a solicitor in Australia (NSW and SA), Hong Kong, and England & Wales. He began his career as a commercial litigator in Hong Kong before transitioning into senior in-house roles, including General Counsel, Head of Legal, Director of M&A and Company Secretary, with prominent listed corporations operating across Hong Kong and Mainland China. His experience includes advising on complex cross-border mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance transactions and listing compliance, as well as supporting Chinese enterprises in strategic overseas investments. He has also served as Legal and Executive Director of an ASX-listed gold mining company based in Perth.

Edward provides comprehensive corporate and commercial legal services, including M&A, corporate finance, e-commerce and technology transactions, governance and secretarial matters, franchising, intellectual property, data privacy, consumer law, employment law, commercial dispute resolution and litigation, and real estate transactions. He is particularly experienced in managing cross-border legal matters involving Australia, Hong Kong and Mainland China, with a strong focus on investment, regulatory compliance and commercial transactions.

Edward’s academic qualifications reflect his broad expertise and international outlook. He holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Laws from the University of Hong Kong, a Graduate Certificate in Dispute Resolution from the University of Technology Sydney, and a Master of Laws in Corporate and Commercial Law from the University of New South Wales. He holds practising certificates in both NSW and Hong Kong.

Fully bilingual in English and Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin), Edward advises and drafts with equal proficiency in both languages, enabling seamless communication across jurisdictions and cultures.

Edward’s appointment further strengthens IR Legal’s Legal Team and enhances the firm’s ability to deliver sophisticated, internationally focused legal solutions to clients operating across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.
