IR Legal Welcomes Tatiana Petrova as Consulting Principal

IR Legal is pleased to announce the appointment of Tatiana Petrova as Principal Consultant, further strengthening the firm’s expertise in migration law and its ability to support clients across Australia and New Zealand.

Tatiana is a senior legal practitioner with extensive international legal experience and a strong focus on migration law. She is admitted to practise law in both Australia and New Zealand and brings a substantial background in judicial, advisory and cross-border legal work.

Tatiana received her early education in the Russian Federation, where she completed a Bachelor of Education and a Bachelor of Laws with a specialisation in Criminal Law. She commenced her legal career as a Senior Officer of Justice and later served as a Judge, undertaking judicial duties and developing significant experience in legal decision-making, procedural fairness and the application of law in complex legal settings.

Following her migration to New Zealand, Tatiana continued her professional development and is now a qualified legal practitioner admitted in both Australia and New Zealand. Her professional experience spans legal systems in the Russian Federation, New Zealand and Australia, providing her with a broad and nuanced understanding of law across multiple jurisdictions.

Tatiana advises on a wide range of migration matters, delivering clear, structured and outcome-focused advice. She also assists clients with education-related pathways, providing strategic guidance on study options and supporting clients throughout the application and migration process.

As a migrant herself, Tatiana has a deep personal understanding of the challenges faced by individuals and families seeking to settle in Australia or New Zealand. This lived experience underpins her client-centred approach and her commitment to providing clear, empathetic and reliable legal support to clients from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

Tatiana holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) (Honours) from Queensland University of Technology and a Certificate of Leading High-Performing Teams from The University of Queensland, reflecting both her legal expertise and leadership capability.
